Juicers

What Juicer to buy?

It is always said – “the one you have is the best one”. It’s better to use what you have than nothing at all. Purchase what you can afford, but I strongly advise to save up and get a good quality one.

  • You will save time, energy and money in the long-term.
  • Better quality will give better tasting and longer lasting beverages.
  • For juicing, you will make more juice out of your with a high quality juicer.
  • Therefore, also saving money in the long run.

Juicers

There are 2 types of juicers. Masticating (cold press) and Centrifugal. They are both great and both have advantages. I’ll explain what they are and tell you what to buy.

Centrifugal

This type of juicer uses a blade. It spins very fast cutting and separating most of the pulp from the juice through very tiny holes in the blade.

Pros…
  • Generally Centrifugal juicers are cheaper.
  • Very easy to use.
  • Juices very fast meaning less time required to prepare.
Cons…
  • Less juice. Often pulp is wet with juice left in it…
  • The blades may produce heat that lessens the quality of the juice.
  • Does not extract the juice from leafy greens as well.
  • Juice separates with foam on top.
  • Louder.

Masticating (Cold pressed)

This type of juicer is run at a lower speed and compresses or squeezes out the juice from food.

Pros…
  • Produces more juice, saving money.
  • It runs at a slow speed which produces little heat so the juice is a better quality juice.
  • Extracts juice from leafy greens very well.
  • Little to no separation of juice and foam. A solid, good quality juice is made.
  • Quiet.
Cons…
  • Most expensive..
  • Takes longer to juice.
  • More preparation.

As you can see masticating juicers are in most ways superior. However, it is all in the initial cost. They are quite a bit more money. When it comes to our health I think it is worth it and you will get your money back with what you save in produce cost.

What should I look for in a juicer?

  • Masticating (cold press)
  • Good quality juice that produces little separation and dry pulp.
  • Easy to use.
  • Easy to clean.
  • Able to make nut milks is always great.
  • Juice keeps for 2-3 days.
My top picks are….
  1. Hurom
  2. Omega
  3. Breville

Again… Any Juicer or Blender that you have is better than not having one at all. That should cover most of the basics.

Carrot juice is probably our favorite! It is so good. And so good for us. Carrots are abundant in Beta-Carotene (vitA). Vitamin A is great for many things! One is boosting the immune system with aiding in the creation of white blood cells. This will also help infections and prevents cell damage.

Carrots have anti-oxidant carotenoids that kill off toxins. Pineapple also adds a digestive enzyme bromelain which helps clean out the lining of our bowels!

Vitamins- C, K, D, E, B1,6 and 7. Minerals- Magnesium, Manganese, Calcium, Potassium, Copper and more!

Beet juice. The colour and shape of the beet gives it away. Packed full of goodness. Beets contain high amounts of nitrate which the body converts into nitric-oxide. This can improve blood circulation and in-turn will decrease blood pressure and increase energy levels!

It is also full of Betaine which is an amino acid. It helps process fats in the liver while cleaning it out. This aids protein formation and helps the heart with its workload. Beets would be perfect for anyone who wants more stamina in athletics or just lots of energy with a good heart.

Try to buy good size beets to yield more juice. Always fresh and local from a farm you know or organic from the supermarket in the winter.

Clean well or peel off the outer layer of the beets. Cut the skin off the pineapple and lime. Rinse the apple and slice the ingredients in sizes to fit down your shoot. Then Juice and serve!!
